Translacion

Manila’s most well known feast is the procession of the Nazareno in Quiapo. The Nazareno was originally shrined in the church of the old town of Bagumbayan (also named after St. John the Baptist). A marker of the old location of the original church is still seen in Luneta. After the demolition of Bagumbayan, the Nazareno was transferred in the Recollect Motherhouse in the Intramuros.

The January 9 procession commemmorates the transfer of the image from Bagumbayan - Intramuros - Quiapo. The massive devotion to the image came when Pope Pius VII gave his Apostolic Blessing. Plenary Indulgence is now given to fervent devotees.

Every January 9, Quiapo becomes a sea of people, as devotees from all walks of life to converge in Quiapo.
